We've gotten some emails over the past two years from Arcano Synth users asking about the Arcano VCX-8 Programmable Sound Generator project. The project was originally conceived to be a "modern" 8-bit programmable sound generator chip for use in synthesizers and other electronics. The idea was to create a programmable sound generator that had an integrated MIDI interface whose sound parameters could easily be controlled with MIDI messages, instead of the more complicated parallel data interfaces used by the PSG chips of the past.
Although a small number of working prototypes were produced, production and technical support costs for the VCX-8 were deemed too high for it to be a viable commercial product.
